Seven Keys That Helped Me Work From Home

There are several things that need to be considered when your work from home. They are: Do I have enough space to perform the work? Where will I work at? What type of work do I want to do? What hours will I want to work? Some of the questions will be fairly easy to answer while others will take a little more time. Determining the kind of work you want to do is can be difficult. I would recommend that you make a list of home-based business ideas. The goal of working from home or having a home business is being able to call the shots in one’s own business. At times it even reaches the point of worry.

If running your own successful home business is a goal you would like to reach, I’ll share some tips in this article that helped me “work from home” with my own online business. Even if you’ve already self-employed, maybe some of the tips I share can help increase the profitability of your existing business, online or off.

1) Be a doer, don’t just talk about it or be a dreamer.

Good words of advice: “When all is said than done, more is said than done.” We all like to dream and are much easier to talk about our goals. You need to put the plan inaction and follow through. I too was one of those people, but I finally combined my dreams with action, and it worked.

2) Effective time management.

Time is money in the business world. If must have the ability to manage your time effectively both in business and personal life, this will become an asset that can repay you many times over. Most people will start their work from home online business while working a full-time job at the same time; this means getting maximum productivity from your time is even more crucial. If your business is growing and you find that you do not have enough time in the day to pursue other business increasing activities, you can consider cutting back on the hours at your regular job, or find a job that may work better for you

3) Have Knowledge in the Field of Choice.

Being an expert is not required when starting out, you will gain that valuable knowledge as your home business grows. You will need to make sure that you stay up to date on the developments in your field. If you do this for a period of time you’ll become an expert.

4) Always be persistent.

I sympathize with those that commute 5 or more days a week to a job they don’t like, but it can be a plus. It can be a strong motivator and your persistence will prove useful. Tip: It will be much easier to persist if you select a field of business that you like, as opposed to pursuing something just for the money. Then your work can be fun, not drudgery.

5) Focus

Believing that you can “succeeding by helping others succeed”, can you a long way. Focusing on clients and helping them solve their problems through your products and services contributes more toward long-term success than just selling them products and services.

6) Self-discipline.

Self-discipline is definitely needed in any business especially when you work from home. No matter what you choose to do, if you do not have the discipline you will not succeed. You have to be a self-starter and know when to work and when to take time to do other things. No home business can survive without this.

7) Marketing skills.

Marketing is a skill and like any other skill, it can be developed through knowledge and practice. You can never learn too much about marketing. Find ways to market your business both online and offline, and you will have more success.

As more and more employees of large corporations have discovered, there is no such thing as job security. Seniority no longer takes a part in how things are handled. For these reasons alone there is no time like the present to move on and start working from home.

Running Your Own Business

We need to imagine that we’re running a huge, multi-million dollar money churning machine in order to achieve that kind of status. It’s pointless to say that we cannot expect to expand our business widely if we’re running it in an irresponsible manner.

You have to imagine that you have a boss kicking you – mental or physical – either way, someone’s got to do some kicking. Most likely it’s either an imaginative boss or just you, mentally telling yourself to pull up your own socks.

In order to do this, you need to know the basics about running your own business. And here are some articles to help you along your journey to self-empowerment.

1. Make this a habit. Talk to yourself. It’s a really simple thing to do. Step infront of a mirror and start talking. You’ll find yourself getting the hang of it. There’s nothing more powerful than self-empowerment or self-lecture, in my personal opinion. Even successful authors and self-help gurus can tell you the same thing – talk to yourself.

Everyday, get infront of the mirror, dresss yourself up real nice and then start talking. Start motivating yourself to move forward, talk about the things you need to achieve for the day, the to-do list, the total sales for the month, the number of people you will approach and talk to today about your business…etc.

It’s not silly. There was one time my son, Joshua, caught me talking to myself in the bathroom mirror and he asked me, ‘Mamma, are you talking to the mirror?’ and I just bluntly told him, ‘Josh, Mamma’s in a meeting. I am talking to myself. Excuse me, yeah?’ and you know what he did? He shrugged and walked away without saying another word.

2. Your to-do list is like your lifeline. Organize yourself and write a to-do list everyday. You need to religiously write down the things you’re going to be doing for the rest of the day either in the morning (right after brushing your teeth) or you have to do it the night before. Either way, your to-do list have to be so handy that you can’t do without it. I should be big enough to write a whole toilet-roll length of things to do but also small enough to fit into your handbag.

I have a small business designing and printing bookmarks and notepads – so, I use them and place them in my handbag. Whenever I am watching TV or answering nature’s call or something and a thought hits me, I grab the notepad and jot it down. At night, I will review it and write down some more. During the day, I refer to it and tick off in bold red pen the stuff that I have done.

3. Draw the line. Yes, you need to draw the line between home and business. The importance of this cannot be downplayed. Yes, we all stayed home to start a home-based business because of a personal preference or because of our family – either way, being home makes it easy for us to be lazy.

If possible, don’t combine your bedroom with your office. But we’re not all as lucky, like me. My bedroom IS my office and that is precisely why I had to struggle for the first few months, getting adjusted to the fact that I am not allowed to touch my bed or cushy chair while I am at work.

When I sit on the computer and start working, I would have to tell myself out loud “Start working now – get serious”. It’s true, we have to be serious about our work and our business. Otherwise, no one would be serious about us, our products and our work. It really reflects on the way we do things.

4. Be available. One of the biggest point for me, is being available all the time. That’s why I have the tagline: The freelancer that never sleeps. Not only does it reflect my committment to my job and work, but it is also quite catchy. There have been times when I have answered to my client’s calls and emails in the wee hours of the morning (I work better at those hours) and they commented, “Gee, Marsha. You really don’t sleep, huh?”. And I just smile.

Obviously, being human, we all have to sleep.

But it’s how you organize the time and also make yourself available whenever you know your client needs to reach you. Being in the Internet Business, I would have to be available to clients everywhere, considering the fact that some of my clients are physically located halfway across the globe. I still hold conferences with them over the Internet using my Voice Conference Room. I have my Chat system and also my Instant Messengers up day and night whenever the computer is on, or whenever my son is playing his Barney and Mickey Mouse softwares on the computer, it is still on. When someone is trying to get me, I would still know.

5. Selling doesn’t stop. I have no idea why some people have such reluctance to accept the fact that even MLM companies are legitimate businesses. Sure, we cannot deny the fact that some of the products are just so WAY OVER PRICED because of the comission structure that the company has to pay out, but it IS still a business.

And the reason why I am using MLM companies as an example is because of this – selling never stops.

In a business, you never stop selling, not even when you’re sleeping. You eat out for dinner with your family and there are potential customers everywhere. You sleep, and you dream about a new way of penetrating a new market. You’re having coffee with a close friend and your friend’s boss’ niece is a potential client.

So, we all need to learn from MLM-ers. Selling never stops, unless you want the sales to.

While it is true that heavily branded websites like amazon.com
are household names and carry an implied trust with visitors, the
vast majority of websites are not well known and are found and
visited as a result of searches performed with search engines.
In these instances, the visitor is probably arriving at the
website for the first time and human nature often dictates fear
or suspicion of the unknown.

If someone is shopping around for the best price for a particular
item, say a Cuisinart food processor, they would probably go to a
site such as Ask Jeeves (at ask.com using the Smart Search for
Products feature) and quickly obtain a list of sources and prices
for the desired item. The “yes/no” purchase decision has already
been made and it is simply a question of who to buy it from.

In the case of network marketing, it is of critical importance to
build a sense of trust with your team members. Network marketing
is very definitely a relationship business and each relationship
typically starts out with two complete strangers sitting at their
respective keyboards.

The team building aspect of network marketing is of vital
importance to the success of each individual member and to the
team as a whole. Two key elements of team building are trust and
confidence and these factors play a very large role, particularly
for new team members.

As a team leader, you need to be knowledgeable about the business
(products, services, or whatever) and straightforward with
answers to questions about the business as well as providing
timely and thorough support to your team members. These actions
will cement the relationship and build trust and confidence among
your team members.

Network marketing has many aspects, but promotion, persistence,
and patience are three key elements which are critical to
achieving successful results.

PROMOTION is the lifeblood of network marketing. Whether you
are using online methods or offline methods, or a combination of
both, you must constantly strive to get your offering in front of
a targeted audience.

There are thousands of published sources that deal with specific
methods of network marketing (both online and offline), but the
key point to be made here is that you must have an active
promotion campaign designed to bring in a steady stream of new
prospective downline members.

PERSISTENCE is a key element in network marketing success.
You’ve gotta “just keep on keepin’ on”, even though frustation
levels can be quite high at times.

After you have been at it a while, and have a downline large
enough to provide reasonably accurate statistics, you will
probably find that about 95% of your downline members are dormant
and do nothing at all. Its easy to get down in the dumps or take
it personally when you encounter so many “do nothing” people.

Therefore, it is really important work with and actively support
the 5% or so that are serious about participating. And clearly,
an active and effective promotion campaign will continue to
bring in increasing numbers of potential participants so that
while 5% is small on a percentage basis, it can still be a
sizeable amount from a pure numbers standpoint.

PATIENCE is vital. You can expect that it will take about a year
before the awsome power of geometric growth kicks in.

A classic illustration of geometric growth is the frequently used
penny-a-day example.

If you save one penny on the first day, and double it every
successive day, (day two you have 2 pennies and day three you have
4 pennies, and so on) how much will you have at the end of
30 days? The answer, to the astonishment of many, is $5,368,708!
Amazing, but true.

Its a sad statistic that most network marketers fail and it is
often traceable to the fact that they did not exhibit enough
persistence and patience to continue constantly promoting their
business for the year or so that is required for success.

Network marketers that stick with it for a year or more often end
up becoming the proverbial “heavy hitters”.

In closing, I would like to encourage you to increase your chances
of becoming a successful network marketer by always keeping a
clear focus on “the three P’s” of Promotion, Persistence, and
Patience.
